Designer Harri Koskinen has risen rapidly in his international career as a designer. He has designed for the likes of Marimekko and iittala, employing his wide ranging talent in a variety of contexts, from textiles to wristwatches.
But where Koskinen has really distinguished himself is in the world of glass. The first object he designed for iittala in 1996 was the futuristic candlestick, Atlas, which was made in several bright colors. The Atlas candlestick was part of the new colored glass production started at iittala at the end of the 1990s, when the plant began to use many new colors. In 1999, he created the elegant Lantern candle holder, which is still in production today. The large candle lanterns are marked by clarity of line and form that is a trademark of Finnish design. Today, Koskinen continues to design for several Finnish companies, using his talent to create objects that are beautiful and functional.
