A family run company, Aarikka was founded in 1954 by Kaija Aarikka and her husband, Erkki Ruokonen. The idea for the company came out of an innovative solution to a simple problem. Kaija, a textile designer, had woven and sewn a dress and was unable to find any buttons that were sufficiently stylish. With a bit of ingenuity, Kaija decided that the best way to solve the problem was to carve her own. Needless to say, the buttons were a massive success and helped launch Kaija’s career in the design world.
Today Aarikka is a globally recognized brand, carrying an array of handcrafted items, including wooden jewelry, mobiles and home goods. Their products have a distinctive, handcrafted look that is appreciated by people the world over.
