Aino Aalto is a Finnish architect and designer best known for her glassware. Like her husband, Alvar Aalto, she studied architecture at the Helsinki University of Technology. After marrying Alvar in 1924, she joined his office in the city of Jyväskylä, thus beginning a wonderful partnership.
Aino collaborated with Alvar on a variety of projects, and together they founded Finnish furniture and lighting company, Artek. But Aino was also a designer in her own right, independently designing several glassware lines for iittala. Her beautiful and functional glassware line is still manufactured by iittala and continues to be admired for its clarity of design.
