Iittala Glass Museum
Less than two hours outside of Helsinki is the iittala Glass Capital, the center of iittala glass designs. Here you will find the making of Finnish design classic, such as the timeless Aalto Vase. In addition to the glass factory, the iittala Glass Capital also offers shopping, relaxing, and history education at the iittala Design Museum. It makes a great day trip for families or individuals exploring Finland’s capital!
Iittala is situated in Hämeenlinna, on the Helsinki-Tampere road, about 15 min. from Hämeenlinna centre and about 1-1/2 hours going north from Helsinki. You can also get to Iittala by bus and train. Check www.vr.fi for more information.
The iittala Factory Outlet is open daily 10 AM – 6 PM 16th of May to 31st of August 2019, and open every day from 10 AM to 8 PM. Public holidays may bring exceptions to the opening hours. The iittala Glass Museum is a must-see. The history of iittala glass is on display with works of such great artists as Tapio Wirkkala and Timo Sarpaneva on display. You’ll also get to see how these glass pieces were made – wood molds and glass blowing tools line the walls. The museum is open September–May: Saturday – Sunday 11 AM to 5 PM and June – August: Tuesday – Sunday 11 AM to 5 PM. Public holidays may bring exceptions to the opening hours.
