Iittala mugs are an essential stocked in the cupboards of Finns and fans of Finnish design alike. Made from durable vitro porcelain, iittala mugs are microwave, oven, freezer, and dishwasher safe. The most iconic iittala mug, Teema, was designed by Kaj Franck in 1952, yet it remains a timeless essential for the modern home today. This line and beautifully mixed and matched with iittala mugs from other popular lines, such as Origo (1999), Taika (2006), and Sarjaton (2013).
To celebrate 100 years of Finnish Independence in 2017, Arabia (sister company to iittala) released a special collection of Finland 100 mugs. Each of the 10 Arabia / iittala mugs don a pattern derived from each decade of Finland’s independence to tell a story. Split into two boxed sets of five mugs each, the first half pays ode to earlier years and the second half to the latter. The limited edition collection includes a centenary stamp on the base of the Arabia / iittala mugs which reads: Independent Finland’s centenary 2017.
The latest iittala mug collection is called iittala Graphics, and it pops a playful punch that can too be combined with more subdued solids. A collection of visual expressions from various designers, each of the four Graphics iittala mugs has its own unique personality. Essentially starting with a blank slate, iittala gave each artist freedom to experiment with color and linework. Though the designer and patterns differ, a similar funky, psychedelic style makes the collection cohesive.
