Aino-Maija Metsola, tell us about yourself.
I am a graphic designer and illustrator. I live in Helsinki, but I like to get out into the forest whenever possible. I dream of being able to do things that are interesting and meaningful.
How do you generally work?
My method of working is based on being continually enthused by new things and new projects. I am pretty tough on myself, and am never content with anything that is half-ready or mediocre.
What’s it like to create a fabric print design at Marimekko?
The work has been rewarding, especially as at Marimekko design has a central role. Good design and the designers behind it are highly valued. It is my impression that Marimekko aims to develop and renew itself continuously. This kind of atmosphere is very exciting for a designer.
What do you think are the most important characteristics in a designer?
An uncompromising sense of purpose, combined with creativity and individualistic expression.
