Pentik Hill Culture Center

Author BrennaLatest UpdateJan 18, 202401889

The Pentik Hill Culture Center, a cultural destination and tourist attraction located in Posio, Finland, is where the unmatched craftsmanship of Pentik truly comes to life. Providing visitors with a fascinating insight into the past and present as a brand, Pentik Hill brings design enthusiasts on a journey through the company’s artistic expression and dedication to ceramics. Here, beautiful glass walkways connect buildings that contain a factory store, museum, exhibition and café, all surrounded by the beautiful landscape of northern Finland.

The Factory Shop

Pentik’s dinnerware collections, pottery, candles and works of art are all made at Pentik Hill in the ceramics factory. This factory showcases the intricate process of creating the brand’s signature pieces, allowing visitors to witness the craftsmanship firsthand. Visitors can then take the Finnish artistry made on location home with them at the Pentik factory store. The factory store at Pentik Hill offers the brand’s basic assortment as well as discounted lines and second quality ceramics. If visiting in the summer from early June to late July, you can also expect to find a traditional summer market in the courtyard selling special batches of ceramics and other outlet finds. You can view the factory outlet store hours here.

Galleries & Exhibitions

Pentik Hill also features Anu Pentik’s Gallery, named after the founder of the brand itself. The gallery’s façade showcases a stunning eight-meter high and 20-meter-wide ceramic installation called Posion Voima (The Strength of Posio). Created with the brand’s guiding beliefs around recycling, the art piece makes use of scraps from broken ceramic during production. This gallery is specifically dedicated to Finnish design and ceramic art, and the exhibitions inside change twice a year to ensure that each visit to the center is a fresh and enriching experience. The Gallery is free entry and open Mon-Sun from 10-4 p.m.

Additionally, various museums are located at Pentik Hill that show the rich history and heritage of Pentik. First established in 1973 as the home of founder Anu and Topi Pentikäinen, the Pentik Home Museum shows just where the brand started from scratch. At Pentik Hill, you will also find additional museum sights such as the Countryside Memories and International Coffee Cup Museums and The Old Ceramics exhibition. Free entry for all museum exhibitions.

Last but not least, Pentik Hill includes a café for a snack break in the midst of a day full of shopping and gallery visits. The cafe offers delicious pastries, pies, salads, freshly baked buns, refreshing drinks and more. The café has 50 seats and a summer terrace with 40 seats. The café operates during the same hours as the Factory Outlet Store.

The Pentik Hill Culture Center stands as a symbol of creativity and artistic celebration, all while being the world’s northernmost ceramics factory. Founder Anu Pentik’s vision has shaped a remarkable space for ceramic art as well as an environment where culture, design and nature converge into one. Whether you are an art enthusiast, a student eager to learn, or a traveler seeking a unique cultural experience, this attraction is a must-visit destination when you find yourself in northern Finland.
