Unikko in Athens

Unikko in Athens

Author ChadLatest UpdateJul 7, 20230465

It’s always fun for us to see how Marimekko inspires people around the world. We recently received an email from Akis, a creative director and set designer living in Athens, Greece. He is a huge fan of Maija Isola’s iconic Unikko print and was kind enough to share some photos of his work. And as you’ll see, he extends his appreciation for the pattern far beyond his home.

Unikko x apartment

In the photo above, Akis took the black and white Unikko fabric pattern and enlarged the scale of the poppy flowers to paint the pattern on his 9′ x 12′ living room wall.

Unikko x dentist

Akis also painted his best friend’s dentist office wall with the enlarged Unikko pattern as seen above. He wanted to make the often “feared” dentist visits a warm and happy one. I think I’d enjoy going to the dentist more with a bright, cheery pattern like that on the wall.

Unikko x boutique

And most recently, seen above Akis did some interior design work for a woman’s clothing boutique located at the center of Athens and again, he decided to liven up the shop with the famous Unikko pattern.

Do you have any creative projects you’d like to share with us for possible inclusion on our blog? Feel free to contact us. We’d love to see your work!
